How to Choose a Large-Print Puzzle Book

Ask what is actually large

The title, grid, word list and solutions are separate parts of a puzzle page. Ask for point sizes or inspect a sample. Large cover lettering is not evidence of readable interior pages.

Print a sample at actual size

Select actual size or 100 per cent in your print dialogue. Shrinking an 8.5 by 11 inch page to fit a smaller sheet changes the type size. A4 usually accommodates the page, but check your printer margins.

Compare spacing and contrast

Clear dark letters on a plain light page can be easier to scan than decorative backgrounds. Notice the distance between rows and whether similar letters are distinguishable. Personal preferences vary, so the reader should judge.

Be precise about solutions

Our flagship uses 18-point grid letters and 15-point word lists. Its compact answer pages use 12-point letters. A reader needing larger answers may prefer printing an enlarged solution page or waiting for a separately designed accessible edition.
